Know Your Bible – Lesson #5, “Unshakable Assurance”
A Tree and Its Fruit – Matthew 7:21-23 NASB1995
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ “Matthew 7:21-23 NASB1995
Paul considers PRAYER paramount. Listing FOUR (4) types of prayer in 1 Timothy 2:1-3:
1. PETITIONS, Supplications – Tend to be prayers to divert evil and negative circumstances from the enemy of our souls;
2. (General) PRAYERS – Petitions for believer’s spiritual and material needs;
3. INTERCESSIONS – Prayers prayed on behalf of the needs of others;
4. THANKSGIVING, “Giving Thanks” – Comes from the Greek word “eucharistia”, which indicates praise to God in the form of being thankful to Him for His loving graces toward us.
